Teacher Covenant

“Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.”

James 3:1

In light of James 3:1, I realize the great responsibility before God that accompanies the call to teach at Richland Creek Community Church.  Also, I realize that my life will be an example before those I teach in both word and deed.  Therefore, I commit to…

  1. Profess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 and Romans 10:9, 13).
  2. Nurture a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through daily personal time in God’s Word and in prayer (Psalm 1, John 15:5).
  3. Pursue holiness and purity in my life as I seek to grow in Christ-likeness (Ephesians 4:1, 2 Peter 3:11-14).
  4. Being a model of conduct for the sake of my personal testimony, the testimony of RCCC and the well-being of the flock to include not taking liberties which may be a stumbling block to those that are weaker and abstaining from the purchase and use of alcohol and tobacco (1 Corinthians 8:1-11:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:22).
  5. Spend time each week in preparation to teach through the study of God’s Word and the leadership of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 2:15).
  6. Follow the curriculum provided by the Sunday School leadership of Richland Creek Community Church in systematically studying the books of the Bible and promoting unity in the teaching ministry of the church (Psalm 19:7-11, John 17: 20-23).
  7. Pray for each person in my class (members and prospects) and love them with an unconditional love (John 17, Ephesians 3:14-19, John 13:34-35).
  8. Give faithfully of my time, talents, gifts and money (Romans 12:1-2).
  9. Faithfully attend worship events and participate in Richland Creek’s various ministries in order to glorify God and set an example for those under my care (1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1, Hebrews 10:25, Acts 2:42-47).
  10. Arrive 15 minutes early for class to pray over the session and ensure the classroom is in order.
  11. Enlist a co-teacher for the class and make arrangements for him to teach when I know I will be absent.
  12. Organize and mobilize the class for inreach, outreach, fellowship and records keeping.
  13. Ensure that the class outreach ministry contacts all visitors within the following week.
  14. Attend the weekly Sunday School Leadership Meeting on Wednesday evenings.
  15. Participate in training events sponsored by Richland Creek Community Church.
  16. Support, cooperate and participate in Richland Creek’s evangelism ministries realizing the importance of God’s command to be His witnesses. (Matthew 28:18-20).
  17. Support and honor the church pastoral staff and leaders (Hebrews 13:17).
  18. Seek counsel, restoration and repentance should I fall into moral impurity and sin.  Should any sin interfere with the commitments listed above, I will speak with the staff Sunday School leader to discuss my continuing to teach (2 Corinthians 7:10).

By God’s strength, I will do my best to keep this covenant and attend the activities mentioned above unless providentially hindered.
