What is my mission?

My Misssion is God’s mission – offering hope!  God has entrusted the organization, Every Child Ministries, with the mission of offering hope to the forgotten children of Africa.  While ECM reaches out to child-slaves, street children, orphans and war-affected children, my concentration will be primarily on the war-affected ones in Gulu, Africa. Following a war that has affected 3 generations, many of these little ones have been left parentless and impoverished. They are facing hunger and disease with little or no education.  What does God want for these children?  Throughout the Scriptures God tells His people to care for the fatherless and the widows and to defend the orphan and those who are oppressed. My specific ministry to these children will be two-fold.

1. Serve older children who have not had the opportunity to go to school by teaching them basic reading, writing, and math skills
2. Serve preschoolers by preparing them for P1, which is 1st grade.  I will help them learn how to sit in a classroom, use a pencil, recongnize letters and numbers, etc.

Of course in everything that I do my aim will be to share the love of Jesus with each child!  I consider going to Uganda to teach a privilege, a challenge, and a  great opportunity to see God’s power displayed through me since I have never been a school teacher before! 
 

What is my calling? 

As a teenager I told God that I was willing to be a missionary and go wherever He asked me to.  At the time I did not sense any leading in that direction.  However, since that time, God has developed in me a love for people, a burden for orphans, an interest in missions, and a heart for Africa.  Having worked, served and volunteered with many children in a various circumstances over the years has also helped to prepare me for this next step with God.  I have been a babysitter, Sunday School teacher, Camp Cousellor, Day Care and nursery worker, Big Sister (through the organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of America) and am currently a nanny and have loved it all!  As we pursue God, God gives us gifts and desires that “fit” His calling for our lives.  God is good and serving Him is not a burden or a chore to be done. It is a joy and a privilege – a dream come true!
 

What is my need?

Prayer–and, I need lots of it!

1. That I will rest in the Lord and trust His Word at all times.
2. That my focus will remain on God
3. That my passion and love for the work and people in Uganda will grow
4. That my friendships and family relationships in the U.S. will remain strong
5. For the people in Gulu, Uganda to be open to God and His Word. Pray specifically for their healing, peace and restoration to take place within their hearts and within their land.
6. For financial provision. I will need approximately $17,000 for start-up costs (a vehicle, housing, plane tickets, insurances, ministry materials, etc.). Once on the field, an estimated $1,000 per month is needed for all living expenses (food, utilities, weekly medicine, fuel, etc.).

Donations

Donations can be given to me personally or can be mailed directly to the missions organization. Donations made to the organization are, of course, tax deductible. Please do NOT write my name on the check but instead please place a note with it stating that it is for my account. 

You may also donate on-line at going to Every Child’s website and clicking on Donate Now button in the left column. As soon as you set up your account, you will choose “Other” in the “designation” field. A blank box will appear, in which you can type my name,  Angela Gast. 
 
In addition, I am also looking for a donation of a new or used portable lap top computer and a small video camera.
